Obsession

So I have this obsession of crocheting/knitting using other materials other than yarn. I've tried plarn (not quite successful), and plant fiber (not quite successful too). And this time, I used a colourful rope to create this bag... (success... finally).

At first I tried to crochet it using a big hook, but turns out, even though it feels limp to the touch, the rope is really very hard to crochet and it hurts the fingers very much. (Or maybe I forgot to try my biggest hook.)

Anyway, in the end I frogged the crocheted bag when I finally received my huge knitting needles. I used 12mm needles for this bag. Sooooo easy and fun, it was a breeze!

Lesson: When it's too hard to crochet, knit it.

All in all, it was a satisfying finish. Hooray!!!

Looks nice, what kind of rope did you use? I like the colors.
Good thinking

Oooh... I have something similar which I bought from a shop years ago. I still have it. Try a single colour and make it shorter a lil bit and make the bottom part slightly bigger than the top. I'm sure it will be pretty sellable..

Just my 2 cents.. Hope you don't mind. I tend to get excited.. lol! :)

Vicki,
I don't know what's the name of the rope, I just picked one with the interesting colors. :D

Cash,
Actually, since it's knitted, with large needles too, makes it have large holes.. And when it's filled with stuff, the bottom will tend to stretch bigger. This one was laid flat for the photo-taking... So can't really see the shape... lol!
I should try single color though.. Should look nicer than this one... XD

Thanks!!!

Cool bag! Have you tried t-shirt yarn?

Hai Le-Chat,

Unfortunately I haven't got the chance to try making yarn using t-shirts, or any other fabric for that matter. Much less crocheting/knitting with it.
I've always wanted to try though, hopefully one day. :)
