Obsession

So I have this obsession of crocheting/knitting using other materials other than yarn. I've tried plarn (not quite successful), and plant fiber (not quite successful too). And this time, I used a colourful rope to create this bag... (success... finally).

At first I tried to crochet it using a big hook, but turns out, even though it feels limp to the touch, the rope is really very hard to crochet and it hurts the fingers very much. (Or maybe I forgot to try my biggest hook.)

Anyway, in the end I frogged the crocheted bag when I finally received my huge knitting needles. I used 12mm needles for this bag. Sooooo easy and fun, it was a breeze!

Lesson: When it's too hard to crochet, knit it.

All in all, it was a satisfying finish. Hooray!!!

Suggestions Anyone?

I know I know... It's been two weeks since my last post. But I was working on this bag, other than simply watching DVDs whole day. I've finished about 6 movie series up till now. Crazy huh.

Anyway, what do you think of this bag?

At first, I just wanted to finish some leftover balls of yarn that I received from my aunt. And at the beginning, I wanted to make an A4-sized bag. But now that I ran out of red yarn and it turns out so great, I don't want to spoil it by adding other colours. So I'm leaving it be.

I mixed the red yarns with a brown thin yarn. Hence the shadowy effect. For the bottom, I mixed a thin red yarn with the brown. Yup, I totally love how it turns out.
One thing for sure, I am not ever gonna work with that kind of yarn anymore. True, the bag is really really solid, and quite heavy too. But the yarn is too hard and coarse and I don't want to hurt my shoulder anymore than it already is.

It's not finished though. I still need to add a handle to it. Can't decide whether to add two handles at both sides or just one handle from the corners. I'm quite lazy to attach zippers too. Or maybe I should just make a flap to close? With a big button? Or simply just sew on zippers without handles? Suggestions please....??

Arigato.

Recycled T-Shirt Bag

Of course, I'm more productive when I'm supposed to do something else. And so... Instead of studying for the presentation on Tuesday, I made this bag today. Finished it in approximately 5 hours.

Yesterday I suddenly got this idea to make a bag out of those t-shirts that I never wear anymore. And so for the experiment, I pulled out this faded t-shirt. It was given to us at our first day in the U.

It turns out to be a very wide bag. Maybe narrower t-shirts will be better. It is REALLY made from only ONE T-shirt, in case you're wondering. And please ignore all the loose threads. Today is the first time I touched a sewing machine again ever since a few years ago when I made this quilt. Anyway, it's the thought that counts right? Another brilliant idea to reduce reuse and recycle. (I think, lol!)

Note: 'Unjuk' is from the word 'menunjukkan' which means 'show' and 'Gigi' means 'teeth'. IBII is the name of my U. Stands for Institut Bisnis dan Informatika Indonesia.

Oh yea, too bad I forgot to take a picture of the t-shirt before I cut it up. Oops.

Hm.. I might just make a tutorial for this. If enough people are interested. Anyone?
